Belize

Clear waters rippling on a short expanse of sand

Conch shells resting beneath layers of liquid

Palm trees enhanced by an arrangement of coconuts

And rays of humidity damp upon the skin

Dirt and sores clinging to tinted skin

Broken glass and empty wrappers adorning the ground

Pockets of powder and covered metal

And padlocked golf carts speeding through alleys

Bold smiles and eager hugs from children

Creole, Spanish, and English drifting off the tongue

Eyes alight with curiosity

And fingers grasping for something more
