“Who with reason despises the day of small things?” Zechariah 4:10
“Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and You would keep me from evil so it might not hurt me! And God granted his request.” 1 Chronicles 4:10
The beginning of a calling often looks like “small beginnings.” David was given his promise, his prophecy, long before the appointed time for him to walk in it. This is often the case, but don’t despise small beginnings, for now is the time to get prepared. Now is the time for learning, growth, and preparation! David probably wondered why he had to fight the lion and the bear. He probably wondered why he was watching sheep when he’d been promised greatness. He could not, however, skip the crucial, preparation portion of his journey.
God desires to teach us much in these seasons. His desire is to mold us into what he has us to be and the vision is yet for an appointed time (Habakkuk 2:3)! It’s coming! Never doubt it. Never fear! God ALWAYS keeps His promises. And you have seen well (Jeremiah 1:11-12)! You have not heard incorrectly, but like David, you must await the promise and expect the refinement that is to follow. To whom much is given, much is required. To whom much is required, much equipping is brought about by God.
